Carolyn Elacqua

When working with clients, Carolyn has been a LMSW under the supervision of Susan Mackert, LCSW. Carolyn is not currently working with clients at this time.

Carolyn has been working with children and young adults for over 20 years. Her focuses are: Psychoeducation, CBT and incorporating the visual arts in therapy. She is focused on assisting individuals and families heal from traumatic life experiences, loss and social displacement. Also, the understanding that at times in our lives we feel lost and alone and that having someone there to support you in Carolyn has been working with children and young adults in various capacities for over 20 years. Her main therapeutic approaches are: Psychoeducation, cognitive behavioral components, and the use of visual arts in therapy. She is focused on assisting individuals and families heal from traumatic life experiences, loss, and social displacement. At the foundation of her approach is the understanding that there are times in our lives when we feel lost and alone and may need someone there to support us in the rebuilding of self and identity.

Carolyn began working in the human services at The Boys and Girls Club, St. Anne’s Institute, and Parsons Child and Family Center (currently Northern Rivers), before becoming an art educator. 

Carolyn earned her bachelor’s degree in Studio Art with concentrations in painting and photography with a minor in Philosophy from The College of Saint Rose. She returned to school and obtained her New York State teaching certification in Art Education and has taught Art at every grade level from Kindergarten to 12th grade. In 2003 she earned a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies and in 2012, a Master of Arts in English, both from The University at Albany. Her love of the Humanities brought her back to social work in 2017, and in December of 2019 she earned her MSSW at the College of Saint Rose. 

Lastly, Carolyn enjoys hiking, reading, and traveling.
